Nonprofit Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who is eligible to participate in Give Hastings Day?

Give Hastings Day benefits 501c3 nonprofit organizations that represent a variety of services, needs, populations, and programs based in Adams County. In order to ensure an efficient operation of Give Day, the GHD committee may limit the number of participating nonprofits to those with an established physical presence in Adams County and/or a demonstrated record of continued service.

  • How do I promote a give day that is actually a couple of weeks long?

Our marketing materials will reflect a heavy emphasis on "GIVE NOW through May 2." You'll see this "GIVE NOW through May 2" language and our logo used on yard signs, banners, publications, social media, etc. We have a GHD day logo that incorporates "Give Now" available in the toolkits section of the website. Starting on April 15, we encourage you to use these phrases in your marketing of Give Hastings Day:

    • Give Now
    • GIVE NOW through May 2
    • Give now and see the impact of Give Hastings Day culminate on May 2
  • How can people make a gift?

The GHD website will start accepting gifts on April 15. In addition, give forms listing all participating nonprofits will be inserted in Tribune twice between April 15 and May 2 and made available to download at givehastings.org. Please remind your donors who mail their gifts that they must be received by May 2.

  • I have a check made payable to my organization, can this be applied to Give Hastings Day?

All Give Hastings Day checks must be payable to the Hastings Community Foundation. Checks made payable to your organization and endorsed over to the Hastings Community Foundation are not able to be accepted.

  • Why is the Give Hastings Day website not showing gifts that have been made?

Gifts can be made online from April 15-May 2, but the website won't show any totals until May 2. The reason is simple - we want to have something positive to look forward to on May 2! (Who couldn't use a little of that these days?) On May 2, the website will have a live leaderboard and show current giving totals. Checks received prior to Give Hastings Day will be entered throughout the day on May 2.

  • What if a donation for Give Day arrives after May 2?

Gifts received after May 2 will still be processed and distributed, but late gifts are not included in calculations for bonus dollars and prize money.

  • When does my organization need to complete its Give Day profile?

We ask that you please lock in your information no later than April 4.

  • When is Give Hastings Day?

Give Hastings Day is on Thursday, May 2. We will open online giving and start our GHD promotion on Monday, April 15.

  • Why is GHD starting early?

We heard from many Give Day donors that they preferred the flexibility of early giving. The expanded timeline also ensures that donations sent by mail are received by Give Day.

  • When should I start promoting Give Hastings Day?

It is not too early to start talking and promoting Give Hastings Day in your publications, communications, and to your donors. We ask that you use the "GIVE NOW" message and logo starting on April 15, but not before. You may promote that Give Hastings Day is on May 2 with early giving on April 15.

  • How do I acknowledge gifts after a donation has been made?

All Give Hastings Day gifts are made payable to the Hastings Community Foundation and the HCF will send receipts for all gifts for tax purposes. While your organization is encouraged to thank the donor for the gift, you SHOULD NOT send a tax receipt.

  • What happens when a gift is made prior to May 2?

When a gift is made on the website anytime from April 15-May 2, the donor will be emailed a tax acknowledgment from the Hastings Community Foundation. You will receive an email noting the donor's name and gift amount. You are free to send a personal note of thanks and share that you've received the gift. Checks received prior to May 2 will be held in our office and not entered until Give Day. Please note that the GHD website will not show a leaderboard or any giving totals until May 2.

  • How can my organization earn extra prize money?

By participating in Give Hastings Day, your organization is eligible to receive bonus dollars in a number of different ways, including:

    • Bonus Bucks to ALL participating organizations allocated based on how much your organization raises
    • An equal share of gifts designated to "Support Them All"
  • How much of each donation will my organization receive?

You will receive the full donation less a processing fee of 5%. This fee is used for credit card processing and to support future Give Hastings Day operations. The Hastings Community Foundation does not benefit from fees of any kind for hosting Give Hastings Day.
