Kenesaw Heritage Museum

About the Organization

We first purchased the old Barbershop to house our museum artifacts that had been donated from community members. As people began finding out about this we were soon running out of room. The old bank building in Kenesaw had been vacant for many years and we were able to purchase it with the thought that we could some day expand the museum into a much larger space. Since the purchase, we removed the 50 years of fallen plaster and junk from the first floor and basement, replaced the windows, added heating and air and built a mezzanine loft. We have an active board of 9 people ranging from 17 - 81 years old. Our museum brought back an old community tradition of lighting the downtown for Christmas and bringing in a large tree to decorate. This year will be the fifth annual downtown lighting come November. Our museum board is heavily involved in our annual summer celebration, Wasanek weekend. This fun weekend brings many people into our community and raises funds for local non-profits, organizations, and school clubs. Our renovations of the bank building has sparked interest in saving other old building in our town.
